Car Care and Maintenance Tips
Owning a car is almost becoming basic in everyday life. We
travel almost everywhere. We go from the house to the office, kids to school,
market, church, business meetings etc.
With these activities necessary to experience every day, it
takes a toll on our partner, the vehicle. Do you know what the basic things
that we do to prolong the cars life are? If not, then continue reading this
article.
These are the things you can do yourself:
Windshield wiper. Some shops offer free
installation if you buy a particular product in their store. However, most car
owners who replace their windshield can save between 10 to 20 dollars of the
service fee. Changing the wiper blades can be different on models. Just check
your manual or follow a step by step guide on the internet, and you can save a
lot. Wiper blades can last by 6 to 12 months some even more.
Spark plugs. Most plugs can be removed every
time on your own. Just be cautious and remember not to pull out all the wires
around.
Air filter. If you can clean your air filter
every month. A replacement can be made every 20,000 kilometres or a year and a
half to two years. You can replace a car air filter in ten minutes or so, it
won’t take so much time, and you might save at least ten dollars.
1 Changing Oil. Now, this is the scene on TV where
you see someone lying down under the hood of the car and staining themselves
with black liquid to the face. Of course, that could happen to anyone, if you
fail to empty your old oil into the oil pan first. Enough about that, changing
oil should be every 3-6 months, according to experts. Keep in mind before
changing oil cool the engine down.
Car washing. It will be tiring but worth it if
your car always looks clean and new. Mud, dust and insect build up on corners
and crevices of your vehicle. A few essential reasons to clean are stopping
corrosion, lessen abrasions, and shine longer.
Wax Your car. Waxing your car will hold the
paint longer, protect from bird poo and dust.
Park in the shade. We all know that direct
sunlight will damage anything because of the UV rays. Parking in the shade will
also keep your car paint longer. If the shade is unavailable, buy car shade to
lessen the suns impact.
Check your tires. A regular check up on your
tires will be most beneficial for your car. Keep the recommended pressure at
all times. Check for unevenness too that can be a signal for wheel realignment,
worn-out brakes or shock absorbers, or internal tire damage.
Clean your car engine. At least clean the engine
once every year. A clean engine will run cooler, therefore, smoother than a
dirty one.
Drive safely. As the last part, this makes it
the most important one. Driving with focus on the road will stay you away to
accidents and injuries. Accelerate slowly, especially during start-ups.
With all the items listed here, don’t forget that when you
can’t do it alone, better consult the car service in your area. It
will not only damage your vehicle when done incorrectly, but it might endanger
you and your passengers.
